Childern nursery in HCT



Dubai- October 30, 2012 – The Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT)-Dubai, Women’s Campus recently opened its first model nursery for children of students and staff. The nursery complies with the world’s highest standards in education and healthcare in a safe, motivating educational environment.
His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology, recently paid a visit to DWC Nursery and was pleased to see the high standards implemented in the nursery that is operating at the HCT – Dubai, Women’s Campus and managed by The British Orchard Nurseries.

Dr. Howard Reed, Director of HCT–Dubai said, ”After several years of hoping to have a nursery on campus, HCT–Dubai, Women’s campus has opened a nursery for children of its students and staff. In partnership with The British Orchard Nursery-the DWC Nursery will strive to establish high standards for other Dubai nurseries to follow. In addition to providing a long awaited service to students and staff, the nursery will be monitored by the faculty and students of the HCT-Dubai department of Early Childhood Development. If the capacity permits, outside clients will be accepted."
He also added that "The DWC Nursery will serve as a center of excellence and best practice at this level of education and child care. The Education Department will ensure that the curriculum draws from current and emergent approaches and methodologies and will be age appropriate, child-centered, theme based, culturally and developmentally relevant, multisensory, experiential and holistic."
Through this initiative, HCT–Dubai, Women’s Campus provides a Nursery to take care for children of students and employees, in addition to giving a chance to students at the education department for direct contact with the nursery teachers and managers to gain hands-on experience about the world’s highest standards in the field and applying their studies.
Director of British Orchard Nurseries Vandana Gandhi said that “Administrators and employees of British Orchard look forward to supporting Emirati women by offering grants and discounts. She expressed pride in her institution’s role in assisting the new generation of children and serving the local community, and appreciated the HCT-Dubai for giving British Orchard a chance to serve the society and Emirati women.”
Meanwhile, Mona Abu Ghazala, Faculty member at the HCT-Dubai Education Department, said: “The DWC Nursery will operate as a distinguished center and provide best practice at this level of education and child care. The Education Department with British Orchard Nursery will make sure that the curriculum is based on the present and emerging approaches and methodology suiting the child’s age and focusing on them.”
She added that the curriculum “will rely on appropriate cultural and development topics, addressing the child’s various senses in a comprehensive experimental way".

The nursery is set up on an area of 600 square meters on the HCT-Dubai campus. It is presently serving children aged one month to four years with a building designed to match the world’s highest standards. The DWC Nursery is run by a highly qualified team from The British Orchard Nurseries.
